What Changes Do We Need To Make This Year?
1Corinthians 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Corinthians 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
1Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
The apostle Paul also referred to leavening when teaching the Galatians about obedience to God’s laws. There were those who distorted God’s grace into license to sin. Paul made the point that a small amount of misrepresentation of the truth can lead to large amounts of confusion and deceit.
Galatians 5:7-10 contains his warning: Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.”
Once again, sin is shown to be like leavening, expanding into the surrounding “bread”—in this case, other Christians. God has little patience with those who would deter others and cause them to misunderstand and disobey His Word.
We need to be obedient unto the Father at all times, no matter what life is giving to us. We need to be obedient to the Lord no matter what others are doing to us. We need to be obedient to the Lord no matter what we are feeling. One little drop of leaven, of our feeling sorry for our self, or making things go our way can cause havoc on others and our walk with the Lord. It is like saying a word in anger once it is said it is done, can’t take it back.
Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
After salvation we are new Creatures, we are to be living for the Lord and not ourselves. When people look at us they need to see Jesus, not a lost person. After salvation some much needed changes need to happen. We should want to be serving the Lord, living for Jesus who spilled his precious blood for us. If we are more comfortable in our old life we need to examine our Hearts. We have to realize there is a huge difference between the lost and the saved.
2Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Jesus Christ died for us, he spilled his precious blood for us, he wanted to give us a way to heaven for all eternity. In order to do that we needed a perfect sacrifice none of us would ever get there on our own. He went to the cross for each one of us; What Can We Do To Thank Him? Not money, not helping out at the local soup kitchen, not feeding the street people. We need to give him our hearts. We need to want to serve him.
Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain—
Free to all, a healing stream—
Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.
In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and Mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.
Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
