The Old Rugged Cross :)

Monday be obedient to his word.jpg

Have a Wonderful and Blessed Day!!! Cherish The Old Rugged Cross!!!

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Philippians2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Galatians 6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

It has been estimated by historians that during the reign of Pontius Pilate and Titus (40 years) at least 30,000 Jews were crucified. In the midst of all those criminals and crucifixions was One named Jesus.
So why is this cross special? Why do hymn writers choose to write about the cross that Jesus died on? Well we should know that the significance is not the cross, it’s not that it is not the age cross. Although two thousand years ago is when the precious Savior went to the cross for all sinners and the Cross has been kept alive for that long. Rather, it’s because of the character and the person of the One who was nailed to the cross.

The Old Rugged Cross of Christ IS the Father’s plan to save sinners from hell and eternity separated from him. The Father would have nobody die and go to hell. He doesn’t send anyone there they take themselves there by rejection of him. Sadly I have heard of people believing they don’t need Jesus they will find their own way to heaven.

How awful of a mindset. This is wrong on a few levels. The reasons this is wrong:
The Lord tells us in his word there is no other way to Heaven. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. He created Heaven and Hell so he knows the way. He made the way.

If you don’t want Jesus why would you want Heaven? It is all about Jesus. We will be praising him for all eternity. No sin, no tears, no pain. No Jesus No Heaven!!!

Pride is what this statement is. Pride took down Satan. Pride takes down many people. Proverbs 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Thinking you will find another way is calling The Lord a liar and he can’t lie.
The old rugged cross was not the second thought from God the Father. It was always the plan to bring man to him. The Father didn’t have a selection of plans he is God he knows what to do. We see in the old testament scripture on Jesus and how a Savior was going to come and save the world from their sin.

2Samuel 7:12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
2Samuel 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Psalm 78:1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
Psalm 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Psalm 78:3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

Jesus (God) leaving heaven, having a holy conception being born from a virgin was the goal of the cross. He was God in the form of a man. Jesus incarnate, born of the flesh and walking on this earth and committing no sin was the goal of the cross.

His trials, His suffering and shame, the nails driven into His feet and hands, the crown of thorns pressed into His skull, the piercing of His side, was all part of bringing men back to Himself.

The old rugged cross of Christ was our Heavenly Father’s goal! Not for himself but to save us. Without the death on the cross him carrying out sins into the pits of hell nobody would see Heaven and that was not God’s plan. He has no desire for anyone of us to go to hell. His desire is for us to be with him in Heaven for all eternity.

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

His son went through brutal beatings, his beard plucked out, his face beaten beyond recognition. He was nailed to the cross, given vinegar to drink, his side pierced by a sword. Jesus perfect and holy had to endure our sins wicked evil sins put upon him and go into the pits of hell to take them there. I have four grown children and I can’t stand to see any amount of pain for them. My older son has severe back and neck issues he suffers in great pain. To allow him or any of them to take on pain for another person would just be not a passing thought for me. Yet the father our creator, the one who hung the moon, sun and stars in the sky. He who poured the great lakes and Seas. He who gave us beautiful flowers, trees, mountains. Loved us so much he gave his only begotten son, who was perfect in everyway so WE wouldn’t have to suffer for all eternity in Heaven. Well Jesus is not still on that cross, not in hell, but living with the father in Heaven waiting to come back for those of us that are trusting him.

How sad and wicked it is that some will think “I don’t need Jesus” “I will find my own way”, “I didn’t ask him to die for me”, “It is all made up”. I pray for the lost for the prideful to see the truth and trust Jesus.

The Old rugged Cross of Christ cross is not a piece of jewelry, a piece of furniture or a piece of artwork. The cross does not become our idol.
So we do not have an object that we build and worship. We cherish the old rugged cross because of the Father’s plan because of its goal.
If you are reading this and have never trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior please stop waiting. He is coming soon for his children. No Other Way to heaven. If your trusting Jesus are you telling others of the Cross and the plan? We need to be telling others he tells us to go out into the world and give the good news. We need to be living for him. Look at what he endured for us.
On a hill far away, stood an old rugged Cross
The emblem of suff’ring and shame
And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
Oh, that old rugged Cross so despised by the world
Has a wondrous attraction for me
For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary
So I’ll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
In the old rugged Cross, stain’d with blood so divine
A wondrous beauty I see
For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above
To pardon and sanctify me
So I’ll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
To the old rugged Cross, I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away
Where his glory forever I’ll share
So I’ll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

Love and prayers
