Have A Wonderful and Blessed Day!!! The Damaging Effects of Alcohol!!!

Proverbs 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Proverbs 23:30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Proverbs 23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Proverbs 23:33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Proverbs 23:34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
Proverbs 23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Isaiah 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

Why do people you know drink alcohol? Some it is to “relax” themselves. Some say it helps them unwind. Some say “we just do in our family it is part of who we are”. Some say it helps them with anxiety.
What are things that people have done while they are drunk that they’ve regretted?

⦁ Got into fights
⦁ Lost jobs
⦁ Had sex and don’t even remember it.
⦁ Drove and killed or injured someone.
⦁ Destroyed their family

What does the Bible say about getting drunk? The Lord tells us not to be drunk, In Galations we see it is listed among murder, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies. So I would safely say the Lord is not for anyone being drunk.
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,
that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Should you drink alcohol? Well the bible says not even to look upon it when it turns red, wHen it moveth. Well Its okay to drink just don’t get drunk. Well how many of us had drank sitting and talking and suddenly we realize “Wow I shouldn’t had that last drink I sure am feeling it”. So if we are not sure when that next drink will be the one to cloud our thinking; safe to say “JUST STAY AWAY FROM IT”.

Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
We all need to agree that based on just these few scriptures, and there are scores of them, the Bible forbids drunkenness or even getting drunk. It is wise to stay away from it.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ALCOHOL RELATED ACTIVITIES?

Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

Paul uses several words here that have relevancy to what goes on continual drinking.
Let’s define each of them:

1. “Rioting”
“a revel, carousal / a nocturnal and riotous procession of half drunken and frolicsome fellows who after supper parade through the streets with torches and music in honor of Bacchus or some other deity, and sing and play before houses of male and female friends; hence used generally of feasts and drinking parties that are protracted till late at night and indulge in revelry.”

In a general sense, tumult; uproar; hence technically, in law, a riotous assembling of twelve persons or more, and not dispersing upon proclamation.
Uproar; wild and noisy festivity.

Excessive and expensive feasting. 2Peter 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2) “Chambering”:
“a place for laying down, resting, sleeping in a bed, couch the marriage bed or adultery cohabitation, whether lawful or unlawful, i.e., sexual intercourse”
The obvious connotation is that when drinking to excess, people are given to dropping their sexual inhibitions.

Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

Do you think that alcohol over-consumption can lead people to do things they might never do if they were not controlled by alcohol? Is this kind of activity the kind of fire believers should play with? As Christian adults we know this is not something to mess with.

3) “Wantoness:”
Wandering or roving in gaiety or sport; sportive; frolicsome; darting aside, or one way and the other. Wanton boys kill flies for sport.
Moving or flying loosely; playing in the wind.
She her unadorned golden tresses wore disheveld, but in wanton ringlets wavd.

Wandering from moral rectitude; licentious; dissolute; indulging in sensuality without restraint; as men grown wanton by prosperity.
More appropriately, deviating from the rules of chastity; lewd; lustful; lascivious; libidinous.

Do any of these definitions show us we need to stay away from alcohol consumption. As I stated in the beginning sometimes we are drinking and we go to get up or move and realize “Wow I think I had one too many”.

4) “Envying”:
excitement of mind, ardor, fervor of spirit: zeal, ardor in embracing, pursuing, defending anything
zeal in behalf of, for a person or thing
the fierceness of indignation, punitive zeal
an envious and contentious rivalry, jealousy

The idea here is how emotions are inflamed when people are drunk. I personally know many alcoholics they become enragred with emotions when drinking. Some things they struggle with not drunk, however these things become far more enhanced after drinking.

After Paul’s warning in Romans 13:13, to not walk in these ways (take no part in them), he goes on to say in verse 14:
Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Putting aside the questions of whether alcohol is allowed in the Bible for believers or not, as a person do we want to participate in something that can be harmful to our mind, body and soul. We see enough wickedness around us, why ask for more? The Bible says it is not for Kings, and Princes well our Father is a King The King so what does that make us?

Clubbing, partying, drinking to excess, drinking contests, wild parties, wine tasting that leads to intoxication. What should our attitude be towards them? We are also not to participate in something that makes someone stumple; well I know of many that drinking would make stumple so WHY Would I do that?
Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Ephesians 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ephesians 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

Another thought to put out there is:

THE BIBLE TELLS US WE KNOW NOT WHEN OUR LORD WILL RETURN DO ANY OF US WANT TO BE DRINKING ALCOHOL WHEN HE RETURNS?
Search me, O God,
And know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior,
Know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be
Some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin
And set me free.
I praise Thee, Lord,
For cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy Word,
And make me pure within.
Fill me with fire
Where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire
To magnify Thy Name.
Lord, take my life,
And make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart
With Thy great love divine.
Take all my will,
My passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord
In me abide.
O Holy Ghost,
Revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival,
Start the work in me.
Thy Word declares
Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now,
O Lord, I humbly plead.
Love and Prayers
Cheryl
