God has plans for each and every one of us. At times, we may become contrary and fight against them. We may grumble and complain, but we must realize that He knows best. We often times feel like we know better than the Father; WE DON’T.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
I. God is in control of our lives (v. 13) After salvation we become the Lord’s he paid for us and we need to be in obedience in him. Now the Lord doesn’t make us trust him, he doesn’t pick those who will only go to heaven, he gives us our own free will. He wants us to make the choice to love and follow him but never makes anyone do so.
Our Father is not like some people were they will guilt us into wanting to be with them, to love them, to serve them. Our Lord wants our heart honestly and truly. He wants to hear from us, our heart, our mind.
A. God should always be the one in control of our lives, especially since He knows what tomorrow holds. He sees the future and therefore knows what is best for us. We need to thank him for unanswered prayers because he knew ahead of why the prayer went unanswered or not answered according to what we want.
SIDE NOTE Sometimes people will ask the Lord for something get told no and go ahead with our own plan. Although he could stop us he doesn’t. When these times happen it usually doesn’t take long to see why the lord told us no!!!
B. Our lives do not always go as we plan them to. Things are not always easy and at times, we deal with really bad things. Have you ever seen a really good, Christian person (maybe even yourself) go through some really bad times and wondered why? Jesus was speaking to His followers during the Sermon on the Mount and said … He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
C. Even at moments when it seems so unfair, we must realize that God should always be in charge of our lives – the ruler of our destiny and at the center of our hearts. He truly knows more than us, he is the creator, he sees the whole picture some of us don’t see out our back door.
II. We are bought by God – For God
A. Our purpose is to fulfill God’s purpose. We were purchased by Him with the blood of Christ.
I Corinthians 6:20 tells us
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s”.
“You were bought for a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” This tells us we belong entirely to God.
Because of this, we should honor God through:
1. Being faithful to Him through prayer, witnessing, reading his word.
2. Maintaining our purity if not married Saving ourselves for the right person.
3. Refraining from drugs or alcohol, and avoiding places where these are found.
4. Live like Christ, We won’t ever be perfect in these bodies on this earth; HOWEVER THINGS THAT TEMPT US THE LORD GIVES US AN OUT. Avoid things that get us in trouble.
Ill. God has Plans for you
A. God knows what He’s doing! Never doubt your purpose or that you have a reason for being who you are where you are. God has a great plan in mind for us. We just have to realize it and surrender ourselves to His plan.
Now sometimes we put ourselves in places he doesn’t want us and then we will face troubles and problems by rejecting what he wants of us.
Jeremiah 29:11 is a beautiful reminder of the fact that God has awesome plans for our lives. It says;
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”.
IV. Let’s stop the complaining
“Complaining is like bad breath, you notice it when it comes out of somebody else’s mouth, but not your own.”-Will Bowen
We all know someone who spends most of their time complaining about things… it’s too hot or it’s too cold … the food tastes bad, the traffic is slow … Pastor is preaching too long … the list goes on and on about things we hear people complaining about, but how does this bring glory to God? Do you think He is happy with us when He hears us complaining and groaning all the time?
A. Complaining can actually anger God
1 Corinthians 10:10 is talking about the Israelites while in the wilderness having been set free from Egyptian rule. They complained about everything –
“Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer”.
Jude 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Jude 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
Exodus 16:12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
Solomon reminds us in Proverbs 17:22 that “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones”.
Will you be more capable of working for God if you are complaining all the time or when you show appreciation for what He has done? If the world sees and hears us complaining how is that being a light to anyone.
B. Why not complain?
1. To be blameless
2. To be pure
3. Without fault
4. Be different in this world full of bad
Ephesians 4:29 says “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers”.
What does this mean? It means speak in a way that uplifts people, that is good, that brings glory to God – not in a way that makes us seem ungrateful, unhappy and as though a life with Christ is nothing special.
We must remember that as Jesus says in Matthew 5;
5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Become the type of person who in the midst of every situation is able to say that God is good! Regardless of what we are facing, let’s be the type of person who trusts God with our life, our purpose, our future and to help us in every area of our lives. May we develop the mentality in time of trouble that Job had when he made one of the most famous quotes from the bible –
Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
Job 1:22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Do you have Christ living in you to lead your life? Are we walking in His plan or trying to go it alone? Do you find yourself always dissatisfied? Pray and lets make a commitment to the father as we begin this New year that we will let him lead us, that we will surrender to Him and that we will walk in the way He wants us to go.
HAVE THINE OWN WAY LORD
Have Thine own way Lord
Have Thine own way
Thou art the potter I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting yielded and still
Have Thine own way Lord
Have Thine own way
Search me and try me Master today
Whiter than snow Lord wash me just now
As in Thy presence humbly I bow
Have Thine own way Lord
Have Thine own way
Hold over my being absolute sway
Filled with Thy spirit till all can see
Christ only always living in me
Love and Prayers
