To Serve or Not To Serve?

Friday let yiour light shine

Have a Wonderful and Blessed day!!! The Effort We Make Shows Our Heart!!!

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Luke 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
Luke 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
Luke 6:41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

Luke 6:43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Luke 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
Luke 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

Luke 6:49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
We are called in Scripture to be IN the world but not OF the world. Christians are to be separate and when the world is at its’ worst, we are to be at our best…

Luke 6:43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
What kind of fruit do we want to produce…

1. The fruit of a holy life:

The Bible is full of passages and verses, calling us to holiness. Just a couple are:
Hebrews 12:13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Hebrews 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
1Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

I don’t believe the world nor God expects believers to be perfect. I do believe they expect us to be different. Often times we offend family and friends because of our living as the lord commands. Yet these same people will pick out every “Bad” thing we do. They are watching every move so therefore it is so IMPORTANT we are living a holy (we won’t be perfect till heaven), life as to not make the lost feel “well Cheryl went to the bar and she is a Christian so I can do the same”.

In our speech: It amazes me how often I hear “Christians” cussing at someone…In our church we have talked about the putting bible verses on our cars; now this isn’t wrong but if we show road rage, swear at drivers give the middle finger to others, then I truly believe DON’T PUT BIBLE VERSES ON YOUR CAR. If we have a desk at work and nice to put a nice salvation verse on our desk;

BUT…..IF WE FLY OFF THE HANDLE AT WORK, GET INTO ARGUMENTS, DEBATES THAT SHOW US BEING PRIDEFUL; a Good idea would be not to put John 3:16 or any Bible on our desk.

A while back a woman (will not call her a lady), had a few bible verses on her car, I wasn’t going fast enough (I was already 8 miles over the speed limit), she flew past me middle finger up, swearing and her face was pretty scary. Now if i could have caught up with her I would ahve lovingly tasked “Why do you have bible on your car and act so unholy and aggressive”
In our values: Too many today are accepting the value system of the world…living in the world LIKE the world…living together…people who are not divorced living with their girlfriend/boyfriend…posting pro-choice posts on Facebook. Joining the lost at the local tavern. Now I am talking about Saved, not the lost.
A big one is how we treat others:…
We are called in Scripture to be IN the world but no OF the world.
Christians are to be separate and when the world is at its’ worst, we are to be at our best…

If you are not living a holy life, there is a good chance that you are nothing but dying leaves, branches dying off.
Like the fig tree in Mark;

Mark 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Mark 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

Jesus condemned the tree because it was showing all the signs of fruit but was covered in nothing but dying leaves.
The fig tree produces the fruit before the leaves, so when you see a fig tree in full leaf you expect to find some fruit.
When the world sees Christians is full leaf they expect to see fruit…

2. The fruit of a loving spirit:

Some people are what could be called fair weather Christians.
They carry a bible as big as the Atlanta Ga. Phone book, under their arms. They attend every conference, every seminar, every meeting. They listen to CDs on the Christian walk. However if they get a bee in their bonnet they become miserable, ungodly, and a poor example.
Even with all this, they are some of the crankiest, fussiest and meanest people in town; much less the church.

It is not my Bible knowledge…my church attendance…my position nor my possessions that make me fruitful. It is not outside appearances it is what is truly in our heart. We need to let go of anger, bitterness and PRIDE!!!

John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
It’s love that proves our fruit is real…

Travis Berry, a former missionary to Argentina, taught theology for a time. He said that many failed the test he gave and his best student a communist plant.

Berry said “You can’t determine who the best Christian is by some theology test.”
You know it is very possible to be as straight as a gun barrel and as cold as the steel spiritually…

I’m not sure where this came from but it makes good sense.
“A Christianity that does nothing for your human soul will do nothing for your eternal soul.
That kind of religion is nothing more than leaves…
3. The fruit of humble service:
Serving others is a characteristic of the Christian faith.
Many serve on committees in the church and call that their act of service.

I want you to understand that serving on a committee is not and should never be an excuse for not serving others…

We were not saved to sit…soak…and be sour in these pews, waiting for Jesus to come…We were saved to serve others and to reach others with the gospel…

I found the following example on line:
I once had a boss who was into “Body building” and I asked him the same question that Merv Griffith asked many years ago…”What do you do with all those muscles?”

The body builder posed for Merv and Merv said “NO, you don’t understand…What do you do with all those muscles…what are they good for?”
All those muscle were good for showing off and that was about all…PRIDEFUL SELF!!!

Some Christians are like the body builder. They keep building their spiritual muscle but have never found a good use for them.
4. The fruit of a personal testimony:
God is not looking for people with all the answers…He is looking for people who can answer the question…”How has Jesus changed your life?”

There was a pastor who went to visit a man from his church, who was dying. This man was one of the church’s best members…a fine man.
The man told the pastor that he had heard a lot of sermons in his life and for many years he had been the member of a fine church. “Pastor” the man said, “The doctors tell me that I am going to die and I believe them.”

He then said “I’m not afraid to die…I am ashamed to die. I have never brought a single soul to Christ. I’m not concerned about what I have done…It’s what I haven’t done that bothers me.”

WHEN our bodies are lying in a casket, Would there be anyone who would come up, look in your face and say “I thank God for _____ If I had never met you I would be forever lost.” Or would there be someone who would say this person showed me how to overcome sadness, anxiety, taught me truths. Would someone say this person prayed for me everyday!

Without the fruit of a personal testimony our lives are nothing but dying leaves.

5. The fruit of simple faith:
Faith is possibly THE MOST important fruit that the Lord wants in our lives.

1Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
1Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
1Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
1Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
1Peter 4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
1Peter 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

Love and Prayers
