Don’t worry about the wicked…Don’t worry about the evil-doers…Don’t worry about the hateful…

It’s easy to get discouraged especially when it seems as though the wicked prosper over the righteous. Why should we continue on in our faith if wickedness seems to pay off?
Apparently David was asked a similar question and we find his answer here in the 37rd Psalm. We begin with:

ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE RIGHTEOUS:

#1- Psalm 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Don’t worry yourself over them, and don’t be envious of them. They may seem to be prosperous, but they’re more like grass that’s easily mowed down. They’re not like oak trees—they’re more like plants (green herbs). “For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb”.
What Should We Do Instead,
#2- Trust completely in the Lord for sustenance and protection.
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
We trust in the Lord, and, therefore, we do good. He causes us to dwell in the land. The wicked are compared to grass mowed down, but we’re called residents and we are fed. We have all we need from His hand both spiritually and physically.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

We delight ourselves in the Lord. The wicked delight in themselves and their comforts, but we look to Him. He alone is our joy and happiness. He alone is our contentment and prosperity, our comfort. In doing this we find fulfillment for every desire of our hearts because He alone will never fail us or fall short.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
We prepare the horse for battle, but we know victory belongs to Him;
Proverbs 21:29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

We plan to go here or there, but we know it’s only according to His will, and not our will.
James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
James 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
James 4:16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
We commit our way to Him, and we know He will bring it to pass. He gets all the glory for all our successes and all the praise in our “failures.”
And He makes our righteousness in Christ shine like the noonday sun! What a contrast between the righteous and wicked—they are mowed down and withered, but we shine brightly.
Psalm 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

The world goes on in its strivings, but all things are complete for us in Christ. We rest, and we wait patiently. We don’t worry about the wicked.
Psalm 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
It’s tempting to be angry or wrathful towards the wicked, but David warns against it. We, the righteous, do not participate in their evil. We overcome evil with good;

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Romans 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
I know it is difficult often times when we see such wickedness as murder, abuse of all kinds and worse when done to children, senseless crimes an example of senseless crime is a few weeks ago on a Sunday Morning during our second service a couple blocks down the road a shooting of a 23 year old store clerk. Many people were commenting on many reasons:
a. A domestic as the man was 25, the girl 23. Must have been a domestic incident jealousy, or she wanted to break up with him.
b. Must have been a robbery and she didn’t hand over the money quick enough.
c. Must have been high on drugs and was some kind of sexual crime.
When it all came out it was none of the above. This young lady died and this man had no reason (NOT THAT THERE IS EVER A GOOD ENOUGH REASON TO TAKE A LIFE). He had an ILLEGAL gun and went into the store and shot this young lady in the chest point blank. These type of things are very sad, very wicked, and yes makes ourt blood pressure rise and blood boil. We however need to leave it in the hands of our heavenly father and pray for all involved.
We are different from them:
THE END OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND OF THE WICKED COMPARED:
#1- The wicked are cut off forever, but the righteous will inherit the earth.
Psalm 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
I have heard some Christians and some “I am a really good person” crowd say “why would I want this earth, this wicked world. Well when the Lord comes and fixes the mess we all have created it will no longer be evil, no wickedness, no murder, no child abuse, no cancer. It will be perfect!!
It’s not possible that we’ll never do evil again so long as we’re in the flesh, but we have been justified and sealed with the Holy Spirit. We are righteous because we have received righteousness from God.

The wicked have no righteousness, and the distinction between us is shown by our works. They practice evil and walk in darkness while we practice good and walk in light.
They are cut off, but we inherit the earth.
#2- The wicked will be defeated, but the righteous will inherit the earth.
Psalm 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
The wicked strives to make his place and to secure his inheritance, but in the end he won’t even be found. There will be no remembrance of him, but the meek will inherit everything. Truly, “the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just”
Proverbs 13:21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

#3- The power and abundance of the wicked is lost and forgotten, but the Lord upholds the righteous.
Psalm 37:12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
Psalm 37:13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
Psalm 37:14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
Psalm 37:15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
Psalm 37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.
Psalm 37:17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
Psalm 37:18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
Psalm 37:19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
Psalm 37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
The wicked seem to have their way now, but God knows “his day is coming.” All his own weapons of war will be used against him so that even the little that one righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

Christ in one man is more valuable than all the treasures of the world. We can not buy; salvation, righteousness, heaven, answers to prayer even if we had all the money, diamonds, jewels in this world. No price can ever be put on these things.
They trust in the arm of flesh, and their own arms will disappoint them. We trust in the arm of the Lord, and we shall never be put to shame:

THE CONFIDENCE OF THE RIGHTEOUS IS IN THE LORD:

#1- The Lord knows our days and satisfies our souls.

What consolation to know that the Lord knows our days. He isn’t taken by surprise as we are. He doesn’t doubt our inheritance. He knows our plight during this life as short as a vapor, and He knows our foundation for eternity.
But the wicked have no foundation but what they build in this life, and it will be consumed by fire. They will perish as fat in the fire along with all their accomplishments and treasures.

#2- The Lord has given us much so that we have much to share;
Psalm 37:21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
Psalm 37:22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

The wicked keeps his possessions and even steals for himself, but the righteous give freely because we’ve been given so much. We have nothing left to gain and absolutely nothing can be taken away. Our confidence is not in what we earn here, but what the Lord has promised us.
#3- The Lord orders our steps;
Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
Psalm 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

God causes us to go to wherever He wills, and He remains with us wherever He leads. He may lead us to the valley of death, but it is not by accident. He may lead us through pain and loss, but it is not a mistake.

He orders our steps, and we delight in His way. We are pleased with whatever pleases Him because our hope is in His ability uphold us.
#4- The Lord meets our needs

Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Obviously there are times when the righteous go without bread, but David says, “I have been young, and now am old.” In his lifetime, and in his experience, he’s never seen a case in which God didn’t give the righteous what they needed to survive.

The point however seems to be that the righteous man “is ever merciful, and lends.” Compare that to the wicked man who “borrows and pays not again.”

The wicked man rests in his ability to provide for himself, but the righteous gives as freely as he receives and the Lord continues to give.
THE WICKED DO NOT THINK OF OTHERS IT IS ; me, me, me, I, I, I.
Back in 2006 we had a horrific ice, snow, and wind storm. No electric, at times no water. Just as now with the toielt paper and Corona virus (in case you haven’t heard the threat of the Corona virus people are buying loads of toilet paper, sold out in many stores).

Well in 2006 generators were no longer easy to find and buy, storees everywhere in WNY were sold out. A man across the street from us bought a generator and unlike others he didn’t want to share or help others with “HIS GENERATOR”. He is truly a wicked man for many reasons not to go into now. Well so nobody asked for his help he set up this generator in his basement. Well due to the chemicals and fumes the generator was giving off made him and his girlfriend very sick to the point of calling an ambulance. The Police asked him why would you set this generator up in the basement with no air? He came right out and said “I didn’t want to have to share or help others”.
The confidence of the righteous is in the Lord!
And so, there is a certain way we are to live:

COMMANDS FOR THE RIGHTEOUS:
#1- Depart from evil and do good
Psalm 37:27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
Psalm 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Psalm 37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

There is a difference between the wicked and the righteous. The wicked work evil and their time is limited. The righteous depart from evil and do good. We will live forever in the house of the Lord, and our hope is made clear by how we now live.

We used to be slaves to sin, but God has freed us to offer ourselves to Him. He loves judgment and faithfulness. We now walk in a manner worthy of our calling as we seek to please Him!
Psalm 37:30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.
Psalm 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

#2- Wait on the Lord and keep His way
Psalm 37:32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
Psalm 37:33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.
Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

Don’t forget that this place is not our home. We’re strangers and pilgrims passing through. We suffer many trials and hardships, but we wait on the Lord. We don’t seek revenge, and we aren’t to be jealous, or envious—we know the Lord will do us good, and that our treasure is worth far more than all the treasures of earth.

Psalm 37:35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.
Psalm 37:36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
Psalm 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Psalm 37:38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
Psalm 37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.
Psalm 37:40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
May our faith be increased as we continue trust in Him!

This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
They’re all expecting me, and that’s one thing I know,
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go;
I know He’ll take me thro’ tho’ I am weak and poor,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

I have a loving Savior up in glory-land,
I don’t expect to stop until I with Him stand,
He’s waiting now for me in heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
Just up in glory-land we’ll live eternally,
The saints on every hand are shouting victory,
Their songs of sweetest praise drift back from heaven’s shore,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
Love and prayers
Cheryl
